A salute to fathers
Happy Father’s Day to all the dads and granddads out there! This may be the only occasion where fathers get 100% attention and full gratitude for all their hard work and patience.
This Father’s Day is extra special for my hubby Dennis because we celebrate our silver wedding anniversary next week. It also marks 25 years of fatherhood for him since I came with a “plus one” when he married me.
We are quite excited for our eldest son Bryan Prieto to be a father when he and Tinkay finally plan it perfectly. The downside is that would mean that Dennis and I would be labeled grandparents, but the upside is that we would have a new baby to spoil!
In the meantime, we are enjoying the granddaughter of my brother Dr. Andrew Prieto. Myda, his wife, continuously posts only photos of cute baby Mave, and is busy with welcoming their entire family back from the States for summer break.
Myda is also on the board of CISV Philippines Manila Chapter. They are sponsoring one show of “Beautiful: The Carole King Musical” on June 28 at 8 PM at the Meralco Theater, Pasig City. The show is highly recommended for kids of the CISV age, eleven years old, as well as older kids and parents. Also, the funds raised will go to the benefit of Happy Forest Kids, an after-school care program among indigenous children and other community children of the Matisalog tribe who attend the Nangalid Elementary School in Datu Salumay, Marilog District, Davao City. For tickets, please call Joy Adarme at tel. 09178339933.

This Father’s Day, we took the dads in the family to Gala Night of “Swan Lake,” the grandest ballet event of the year, including stars from the renowned Bolshoi Ballet. Principal dancer Alexander Volchkov and prima ballerina Nina Kaptsova take on the lead roles in the story, widely considered as the ultimate ballet fairytale.
The quintessential classical “Swan Lake” runs at the New Frontier Theater at Araneta Center in Quezon City until June 22. The music is by the legendary Russian composer Pytor Ilyich Tchaikovsky, a four-act tale of tragedy and romance between the charming Prince Siegfried and the cursed Princess Odette, or the Swan Queen. Under a sorcerer’s spell, Princess Odette is forced to live her days as a swan swimming on a lake of tears and her nights in her beautiful, human form. The curse can only be broken only by a man’s pledge of true love to her.
“Swan Lake” premiered in 1877 at Moscow’s prestigious Bolshoi Theater, regarded as one of the Russian capital’s landmarks and home of the Bolshoi Ballet, a company founded in 1776. Dancers Volchkov and Kaptsova have been with the company for over two decades, with repertoires including “Sleeping Beauty,” “The Nutcracker,” and many more.
“Swan Lake” is made possible through the support of Philippine Tatler, along with The Philippine Star, Philippine Daily Inquirer, BusinessMirror, ANC, CNN Philippines, Fox Life and NYXSYS Philippines, with Crossover 105.1 as the official radio station partner. Tickets are available at Ticketnet and Ticketworld, with various discounts for students, seniors, PWDs, groups of thirty and more, and MasterCard holders.

If you’re looking for a gift for dad, and the father in your home is not into ballet, I recommend browsing through the latest Kenneth Cole Reaction 2019 watch collection. This year, Kenneth Cole Reaction brings out timepieces that combine athleticism with an urban edge. Drawing inspiration from sports and the love of the game, the watches show off complementary colorways, texturized silicone straps, bold hues, and intricate dials. It’s smart, contemporary style kicked up a few notches.
As a special, limited-time offer, every Reaction watch can be personalized with customizable cases and straps, only until June 17 at SM Makati. Create unique timepieces to suit every style, mood, and occasion, and make every watch your own.
The global brand is known for its cool and casual vibe, combining urban style and a downtown New York attitude. It’s the watch of choice for the creative class who are always ahead of the game.
Sporty guys can opt for the “Jones,” with a 46mm jet-black casing that contrasts against the bright blue dials and silicone strap. For an understated sense of style, the “Bleecker” and “Dyer” styles might be more your speed, with screw detailing on the bezel set against a pastel grey or deep blue backdrop.
The range is quite extensive, with names like “Fulton,” “Bowery,” “Park,” “Broadway,” and so many more. Going through the Kenneth Cole Reaction watch collection will be an exciting way to bond with dad.
