In partnership with Moët Hennessy Philippines Inc., Salcedo Auctions and Grace Home, Peninsula Manila recently held Culturati: Sense & Sensibility, a special preview event showcasing important historical Philippine Art pieces for an upcoming auction.
Salcedo Auctions’ Richard Lerma transported the audience back in time on an art history talk spread over two sessions and moderated by Grace Baja – an afternoon tea hosted by Moët & Chandon and evening cocktails courtesy of Hennessy VSOP. Art and jewelry aficionados such as Tessa Prieto-Valdes, Tim Yap, Irene Martel Francisco, Chris Yam Daez, Joanna Preysler and Dr.Vicki Belo attended to get a glimpse of the fine and the rarefied.
The exclusive preview is all about the idea of sense, “vivifying a well-lived life through the interiors and fragrances, which enhance the space and activate the olfactory senses such as Grace Home’s products. It offers people a holistic experience to appreciate beautiful things that are feast for the eyes. Senses are also triggers that touch our inner being and emotions. Sensibility on the other hand, is asking ourselves: How do these senses affect and relate to us through artworks? How and why a particular painting triggers one’s emotion or memory?” says Richard Lerma.
Moët Hennessy Philippines Inc. managing director Olga Azarcon adds: “Experience is at the heart of the LVMH spirit whether it be in celebrations or events. Auctions can be a great way to showcase the heritage of Philippine arts because it demonstrates our ability to put more value and legacy to enduring arts. We are pleased that Salcedo Auctions shares with us this savoir-faire and is paving the way to help bidders discern and acquire high-value pieces.”
Some of the art pieces to be auctioned off are Ben Cab’s Draped Series II, Fabian dela Rosa’s Casas de Pescadores, Carlos “Botong” Francisco’s Gethsemane, and Ang Kiukok’s White Fish in Blue. For fine jewelry and timepieces, a vintage Cartier 18K gold collar necklace, Bvlgari 18K diamond ring, and a Patek Philippe Rare Grand Sovereign clock complication await collectors.
The Important Philippine Art sale and Fine Jewelry and Timepieces will be held on March 12 -13 respectively and starts at 2 p.m. at Unit 104-B, Ground level, Three Salcedo Place, 121 Tordesillas St, Salcedo Village, Makati. For more information, visit http://salcedoauctions.com
