The author of the idiom, “save for a rainy day” was most probably not a Filipino. If we took this wise phrase literally, given the non-stop rains of the last few weeks, we might not have any savings left!
It is quite important to set aside money, not only for emergencies, but also for major expenses like education, homes, cars, and eventually retirement. I am not an expert financial advisor but it is good practice to have at least enough in savings to cover three months of rent and expenses. According to Glenda Mercado, my Sun Life Financial agent, the best way to start is to start saving a little at a time and invest in a Sun Life package that is tailor-fitted for you.
This can be very difficult, as it conflicts with my tendency to spend more than that on shopping and travel! Fortunately, there are so many travel fairs and expos that offer amazing deals for airfare and tour packages. At last week’s Travel Madness Expo at the SMX Convention Center, Corporate International Travel & Tours (check out their Instagram @cittiexperience) had several exciting destinations up for grabs, including the “Game of Thrones: Balkans” package which we toured early this year.
Our #GoTyaBalkan2018 gang was reunited at the recently held reception to celebrate the National Day of the Republic of Slovenia and the 25th anniversary of Philippines-Slovenia at the Ballroom of the Makati Shanri-La. Felix Ang, honorary consul of the Republic of Slovenia, invited us to the grand celebration where we met other diplomats who all love and support Slovenia as well.
Last weekend was quite busy with so many events and celebrations. Friday the 13th last week was not an unlucky day for the winners of the recently concluded “Wilcon Win-A-Ride is Back!” promo.
The country’s leading home improvement and construction supply retailer, Wilcon Depot, drew the winners for this most astounding promo of six brand new Toyota Fortuner cars. Winners had simply shopped for a minimum of P5,000 worth of purchases to participate in the raffle. What a great dream come true it must have been for the winning entrants.
At the Grand Draw at EDSA Shangri-La, event host Johnny Litton assisted Wilcon executives Rosemarie Ong and Lorraine Belo-Cincochan to draw the lucky winners from customer entries from all over the country. Year after year, my ever-favorite Wilcon Depot continuously provides better promo offerings to its valued customers.
The following day, my hubby Dennis and I had a weekend honeymoon at Anya Resort Tagaytay, as this charming resort in a pineapple plantation celebrated its first year anniversary.
Anya Resort Tagaytay hosted a one-night only “Hola!” dinner collaboration. Chef Ruben Beltran of Rambla and Chef Jonathan Bouthiaux of Anya teamed up to create various specialties from Barcelona’s famous Las Ramblas strip.
Guests enjoyed an infusion style of cooking and blending of spices and flavors. Rambla’s specialty of paella negra with fresh mussels and clams with flavourful saffron aioli was paired with juicy pork jowl and chipotle dressing. This Spanish feast was all about making the most of the best local produce found in Anya Resort Tagaytay.
Santiago Roxas Elizalde, president of Roxaco, expressed his gratitude to all their investors and loyal clients for their continuous support. Also joining him were Alfredo Roca, managing director of Anya Hospitality Corporation, and Mikel Arriet, GM of Anya Resort Tagaytay. Santi told me that Anya is a project of Roxaco Land Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Roxas and Company. The resort can be found along Buenavista Hills Road, Barangay Mag-asawang Ilat, Tagaytay City. Check it out by calling 657-1640 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
Last week was also the big celebration of Lucerne, one of our generous sponsors at the upcoming Red Charity Gala. Lucerne, the country’s leading retailer for luxury watches, hosted a grand VIP cocktail party at Salvatore Cuomo at The Fort to celebrate the 150th anniversary of IWC Schaffhausen and the debut of its new limited edition Jubilee collection in the Philippines.
From Singapore to Malaysia and, most recently, Thailand, IWC has pulled out all the stops to mark its 150th birthday in South East Asia before heading to the Philippines. The Schaffhausen manufacture’s Jubilee celebrations made its stop in Manila, where more than 80 of the company’s most valued-clients, members of the local press, and Friend of IWC South East Asia Erwan Heussaff came together to joyfully commemorate IWC’s impressive legacy in engineering first-class time machines.
Hosted by Filipino-Iranian celebrity TV presenter and model Joey Mead King, the VIP cocktail party also marked 23 years of IWC’s long-standing partnership with leading Manila-based watch retailer Lucerne.
“With more than two decades of retail partnership in the Philippines, IWC is now amongst the most coveted brands to own by local watch collectors and aficionados,” said Emerson Yao, managing director of Lucerne. “Lucerne is proud to have IWC as one of its anchor brands and to have the opportunity to operate two IWC flagship boutiques in the country,” he added.
The star of the night came in the form of IWC’s new limited- edition Jubilee collection, which is designed and developed as a tribute to the innovative, bold and adventurous spirit of its founder Florentine Ariosto Jones.
As they tucked into the gourmet canapes whipped up by Salvatore Cuomo and handcrafted IWC-inspired cocktails designed by Erwan Heussaff, all invited clients and journalists had the opportunity to discover technical and artistic highlights from the Jubilee collection such as the highly-talked-about IWC Tribute to Pallweber Edition “150 Years,” the Portugieser Perpetual Calendar Edition “150 Years,” as well as the Portofino Hand-Wound Moon Phase Edition “150 Years.”
If you have any savings left from these rainy days, think of IWC!
